NPM Chapter – Portland Oregon

We are the Portland Oregon chapter of an organization called the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM, for short).

The national organization

The mission of NPM is to foster the art of musical liturgy.

NPM supports pastoral musicians, clergy, and liturgists in the Catholic Church today, with annual conventions, webinars, educational publications, and both local and national networking opportunities, for musicians at all skill levels.

The Portland Oregon chapter

The Portland Oregon Chapter of NPM provides educational and networking support for musicians and others who take part in liturgical music and pastoral ministry in the Portland Oregon Archdiocese and the Portland metro area.

We do this by developing/hosting/presenting and/or promoting events of interest, such as:

  • Concerts and workshops by liturgical music composers, such as Barbara Bridge, Bob Hurd, Ken Canedo, Janèt Sullivan Whittaker, Sarah Hart and Ricky Manalo.
  • Locally-developed workshops, such as the Madeleine Choral Invitational, the Cantor Workshop, and the Liturgies of the Order of Christian Funerals Workshop.
  • Social gatherings for group learning, discussion, and networking.
  • New music reading sessions with publishers OCP and GIA.
  • Local concerts of sacred music.
  • Continuing education opportunities, such as the undergrad and graduate Liturgical Music course at the University of Portland.
  • Other opportunities for ongoing formation, such as OCP’s Center for Learning, and Virtual Workshops from Liturgy Training Publications (LTP).
  • Annual conventions by NPM and the American Guild of Organists (AGO).

We also list liturgical music employment opportunities, and host a Facebook page for liturgical musicians open to taking on more work.
